Introducing the new ART Awards

The Association of Ringing Teachers is delighted to announce the new ART Awards.

Launching later this year when nominations open, and to be awarded for the first time at the ART Conference 2016 in Loughborough, the ART Awards are a new national and international scheme intended to recognise the people and groups who are successful in teaching and training ringers.

The ART Awards are open to everyone, not just those who are ART Members or Learning the Ropes participants. ART intends that the Awards will help in developing and sharing innovation and best practice.

Categories for the 2016 ART Awards are still being finalised, but are expected to include the areas below:-

  • School-Associated Youth Groups
  • Youth Groups
  • Innovation in Effective Use of Technology Award
  • Excellence in Use of Social or Online Media Award
  • Innovation in Recruitment or Retention Award
  • ‘Learning the Ropes’ Achievements

The ART prize for each Award will be meaningful and add value to the winners. The prizes may be spent in a flexible way to be agreed with the winners, but giving benefit to all the participants and with an educational and developmental focus.

Stephanie Warboys has kindly agreed to lead and develop the ART Awards on behalf of the Association. We are also pleased to announce that Stephanie Pattenden, the former Headmistress of a leading independent school and ART’s Independent Educational Standards Committee Chair, has agreed to be Chief Judge for the ART Awards. Stephanie will lead a panel of judges with appropriate experience. In judging the Youth Groups Awards, Stephanie and the panel will consider communication, the involvement of the community/school, group progress and/or individual achievements, use of technology and/or innovative learning techniques, use of structured teaching and learning programmes and good practice.

More information on the nomination and application process will be announced over the coming weeks and months. It is intended that the winners and their achievements (together with other entries of merit) will be published in the popular ART WORKS magazine as well on our websites and social media accounts, and naturally, shared widely amongst the ringing community..

The ART Awards for Youth Groups have been generously funded by the Sarah Beacham Memorial Trust which has transferred its funds to ART as the appropriate educational body to develop these awards. These ART Awards will be called The Sarah Beacham School Group Award and the Sarah Beacham Youth Group Award.

The above ART Awards categories will be extended in future years to cover a wider range of achievements and successes in ringing. If you, or a group or company you represent, would like to sponsor one of more of the ART Awards or suggest a category for future awards please do get in touch.
