In September a group of about 12 students from Warwick School (and one from Kings High) started to learn to ring as an after school clubactivity.
After a demonstration session at St Marys Warwick they started on a ‘Learning the Ropes’ based syllabus with 7 ITTS trained teachers providing tuition at St Nicholas Warwick which is close to the School. Despite very limited time available, and only weekly sessions, good progress is being made and it is hoped to get them ringing rounds by the end of term. Ringing sessions include theory and using laptops with Abel to develop listening skills.
During the term, the school has had a quality inspection. This could have included any official after school clubs, including bell ringing. Having trained, insured and checked teachers working to codes of practice and weekly lesson plans would have allowed us to sail through – alas the inspectors never appeared in the ringing chamber but the club was mentioned in the report.
Lets hope they get to ring ‘open’ for Christmas.
