M1: 23 November - Ashdon

Having received many hours of tutoring and mentoring myself, I felt it would be good to put something back. My aim of attending the course was to be able to assist in the training of a growing number of recruits in my home tower. Not an experienced ringer by any means, I have reached ART LTR Level 2 and am working towards Level 3. It was with some trepidation that I attended the Module 1 training day at Ashdon Parish Church, Essex, on a dull, cold November Saturday. Our expert tutor Leslie Boyle, ably assisted by David Sparling, quickly put us all at ease and we were soon enthusiastically underway.

From the start, it was obvious that the training day had been expertly prepared and structured. Each activity having been broken down into alternative theory and practical sessions. The presentation slides were straight forward and easy to understand. Each practical session was broken down into easy to remember components, at the same time enabling awareness of teaching and pupil learning styles to become apparent.

Working in pairs during the practical sessions enabled us to put theory into practice without delay. Welcome coffee breaks and lunch provided the opportunity for more informal discussion and learning. By the end of the day our new found skills were fairly well embedded. This was borne out the following day when I was delighted to pass the subsequent online test at first attempt.
