The first North American Module 2 ART Training Course – Teaching Elementary Change Ringing – was held in Shreveport, LA at St Mark’s on the Wednesday prior to the start of the 2015 NAGCR AGM.
The course was led by Bruce Butler and Tony Furnivall. The course participants were from a geographically diverse area. They were Alan Ellis (Vancouver), Madeleine Cheesman (Toronto), Linda Rankin (Dallas), Chris Haller (Rochester) Lindsey Hutt-Fletcher and Candace Higginbotham (Shreveport).
All the ringing and theory sessions took place in the lovely and comfortable ringing room. The bells were tied and rung on a simulator. A lot of time was saved as we did not need to keep moving from tower to classroom except for refreshment breaks and lunch.
The agenda that Bruce had planned worked well and the course materials and exercises were well received if the evaluation sheet comments are to be believed.
During the next day and a half, the NAGCR held an Elementary Ringing course and each Module 2 participant (being helpers on the course) was able to learn more from Bruce and Tony as they worked with the novices. They then had the opportunity to select an exercise and put their newly learned skills into practice during the course and get “marked” in their Teacher Training LogBook. This was a “win-win” situation for all.
