I really must ask myself why this course didn’t get booked up and become oversubscribed.
It was brilliant. If you are running a practice, looking after new recruits, looking to develop ringing from where you are now, or looking for new ideas then this is a must.
The end of last year I reluctantly went along on a freezing cold day to attend an ART M1 'Teaching Bell Handling' Day Course. Once there I discovered why: brilliant new ideas, things that work and make life a bit easier when teaching people to ring, so I was enthusiastic about the M2C, added to which it was in the new Mancroft Ringing Discovery Centre (MRDC). However, we are a slow old lot round here and I had to work hard to fill the places. All I can say is those that couldn’t make it have missed out.
MRDC bells are so easy to ring, there is no fear factor and if you think you’d like to set a bell then it will set. Plus no one can hear what you’re up to so all those exercises are simply fun and self-indulgent. Our Tutor, Graham Nabb, took us from one exercise to another and I can’t wait until my after-school club are experienced enough to have a go at 'Twinkle, Twinkle', but I’ll probably have to fight the grown ups off the ropes first.
