I really enjoyed the day, even if I couldn’t set the 6th in Twinkle, twinkle little star!
Some of the exercises sounded simple but were quite taxing for those of us that have been ringing for a long time! It’s not bad for learners to see us having difficulties too! There was a good balance between the theory and practical sessions, no-one felt pressurised if they didn’t want to have a go for any reason, there was time to answer questions and discuss points. All in all it was a very well-run day, with lots of interesting ideas for us to try back in our own towers. At our learners’ practices on the following Monday and Saturday, we tried a few exercises ‘think of a number’, ‘catch me if you can’ and ‘whole pull and stand’. Our learners found them interesting, especially seeing the relevance of ‘catch me if you can’, as it prepares them for lowering and raising in peal.

Moira was a very engaging Tutor and took us through lots of useful practical exercises and coaching theory. I can see that we are going to have a lot of fun in the tower using these exercises, as well as improving the learning experience for all. The looks on the faces of experienced ringers when trying to ring Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Variable Hunt Bob Doubles were priceless!

I thoroughly enjoyed the practical sessions – a brilliant series of practical exercises aimed at different levels and well demonstrated. There were lots of helpful suggestions for running a practice, though I was conscious of the fact that I was one of the few people there who was not a ringing master.

The day was full of clear explanations and a great mix of theory and practical. Discussion was encouraged and an excellent atmosphere created by our tutor. We have tried a couple of the exercises and much merriment as some of the learners caught on quicker than some of our experienced ringers. Thanks again for a great day.
