On a cold January morning 8 ringers met at Kineton for the ART Module 2F Day Course under the tutorage of Paul Lewis, ably assisted by Frank Seabright.
During the day Paul took us through a series of presentations and practical sessions to help build the essential foundation skills required for good bell control and accurate striking.
We were introduced to a number of practical exercises that can be used to develop bell control, listening, ropesight and ringing theory. These included ringing bells at alternate handstroke and backstroke, the use of simple tunes such as “Twinkle, twinkle, little Star”, Kaleidoscope ringing and the use of methods such as Bastow and Cloister Doubles as building blocks towards Plain Hunt.
The course gave ample time to practise teaching these exercises, with frequent opportunities for the group to share ideas and experiences. I would highly recommend the course.
Thanks to Paul, Frank and the local ringers who ‘volunteered’ to keep us fed and watered throughout the day. We came away enthused and keen to try out the new ideas in our own towers.
