Chairman's Chatter - January 2022

A belated Happy New Year, may it bring you health, happiness and plenty of enjoyable ringing opportunities. At the time of writing, ringing rules vary around the UK (and indeed the world). It does, however, seem that the outlook is better than this time last year. The ART team is planning for a full programme of events for 2022, but we’re prepared to reschedule if the Covid-19 situation deteriorates. Highlights for the first part of the year include:

  • 6 February – Online Teaching Forum – getting your confidence back
  • 4 March – ART’s tenth birthday – Ring Out for ART
  • 5 March – 2022: Ringing Recovery, a presentation by Simon Linford and Lesley Belcher
  • 7/8 May – ART Conference in Birmingham

ART's tenth birthday

On Friday 4 March 2022 ART will be ten years old, and we want to celebrate. What we’d love is for people to ‘Ring Out for ART’ in the days around this anniversary and record their ringing on BellBoard. Please add a footnote and link your performance to the event – ART’s tenth birthday.

Ring what you like, maybe something that ART has introduced you to: rounds on six, 40 changes of Switch-a-roo, handbells, eBells, a teachers' quarter peal, a LtR Achievers' touch. Please put your thinking caps on and enjoy celebrating ART’s tenth birthday.

ART AGM 2022 and online presentation

If you’re an ART Member then you will have already received your invitation to the AGM, which will take place online at 10.30 on Saturday 5 March. It would be great to see and hear from you at the AGM, so please book a place – it is expected to only last 45 minutes.

Straight after the AGM, Simon Linford and I will be talking about the challenges and new opportunities that ringing will face during 2022. This presentation is open to everyone (not just ART Members) and will be followed by a question and answer session.

ART Conference

In a break with tradition, the conference will be separate from the AGM, and will be held on Saturday 7 May at Erdington Academy, Birmingham. We are hoping that by holding this event later in the year, we will minimise the risk of it having to be cancelled due to Covid-19. The day will comprise its usual wide variety of presentations and workshops, and will feature the launch of two new schemes:

  • The Learning the Ropes Advanced Call Change Scheme
  • 50 Ringing Things for the Team

The second day of the conference weekend will be hosted by the Stewardship and Management Workgroup of the CCCBR. So that’s two days of thought-provoking seminars and workshops for you. Why not make a weekend of it?

Please put the dates in your diary. More information and tickets will be available in the coming months.

ART Awards

Reflecting the challenging environment that ringing faces at the moment, the 2022 ART Awards have been redesigned. The number and nature of this year's awards, along with details of the nomination process, will be released after Easter. Watch this space!
